Apply for a Camp Scholarship
Type 1s of the North wants to help send adults and kids living with Type 1 Diabetes to inspiring, educational and empowering camps & workshops. Bulkley Valley applicants may be prioritized since the $ was raised there, but we encourage ALL interested applicants to please apply!
Here’s some of the camps we have been to & recommend (in Alphabetical Order):
- Connected In Motion (Adults)
- Diabetes Canada D-Camps (Kids/Youth)
- Diabetes Training Camp (Teens/Adults)
- I Challenge Diabetes
- got another one in mind? Fill out the application below and tell us about it
All of these camps have been significant and life-changing for the local Type 1s we’ve met who have attended. So we want YOU to have the chance to experience something awesome too.
Requirements:
- Living with Insulin-Dependent Type 1 Diabetes
- Bulkley Valley residents preferred* but not mandatory or let us know what your connection is to this area!
(preference is simply because all the fundraising to date has been done in the Bulkley Valley).
Suggested Deadline:
- April 15 of each year. If you’ve missed the deadline, please apply anyhow – we may be able to assist you if funds are available.
Scholarship Funding:
Partial or full scholarships may be available, depending on the camp costs and what we have available.
A massive “Thank You” goes out to the Bulkley Valley fundraisers who made this possible! In Smithers, BC, a group of volunteers in the local Type 1 community raise $ each year by volunteering at McBike’s Annual Mothers Day Run. The volunteer effort is spearheaded by local T1D parents Jo and Matt Sear. McBike shop owners Jill & Peter Krause organize the Run and generously donate the registration fees to Type 1s of the North, a Smithers group that came together n 2016 to coordinate and host “Type 1s of the North Unite”, an empowering conference in northern BC specifically for people living with Type 1 Diabetes and their caregivers.
